Advocating for a Democratic Primary
Like everyone else, I was watching the debate last week, mostly in shock.
One place I agree with both candidates: democracy is on the ballet, and I don’t like either of our choices.
Option 1: Trump, who used to be radically right, who has moved more towards the center with his recent support of green cards for every foreign college graduate and backing off of his abortion stance, pro science and technology stance, but tried to prevent the peaceful transition of power in the last election.
Option 2: What increasingly looks like will be a not democratically elected candidate on the left which party insiders are choosing when Biden steps aside for health reasons, who will likely be radically leftist.
Both of these options are bad for democracy. A geriatric president should also be out of the question.
Really we need to take a step back as a country and have reasonable primaries where people vote on the democratic candidate. Biden clearly isn’t fit to serve (and there’s still an open question of who really is in charge now…), but neither is an insider elected by insiders behind closed doors. We should be ok to delay the election to let this process happen correctly, in a democratic way.
